Friendsgiving Dessert Ideas Everyone Can Share

Friendsgiving is the relaxed cousin of Thanksgiving dinner: a meal with friends, usually potluck style, where everyone brings something. The best Friendsgiving desserts are single-serve treats that travel well and need no slicing, such as cupcakes, cake pops, cheesecake shooters, dipped pretzels and gourmet apples. This guide covers which treats work best, how much to bring for your group, how to get them to the party in good shape, and the order dates to know for November 2026.
What Is Friendsgiving?
Friendsgiving is a meal shared among friends on or near Thanksgiving Day. Many groups hold it on a weekend in November so people can still travel home for the family meal.
Merriam-Webster defines Friendsgiving as "a celebration or meal shared among friends on or near Thanksgiving Day" and dates its first known use to 2007. NPR reports the word was added to the dictionary in 2020. The idea itself is simple: friends, good food and a full table. You can read more on the Friendsgiving page.
Thanksgiving 2026 falls on Thursday, November 26, so most Friendsgiving dinners will land on the weekends of November 14, November 21 or November 28.
What Desserts Work Best for Friendsgiving?
Pick desserts that guests can grab with one hand, that hold up in a car, and that don't need a knife or a pie server. Single-serve treats keep the dessert table moving while people talk.
A Friendsgiving is usually a potluck, so the host's kitchen fills up fast. Desserts that arrive ready to set out are a gift to whoever is hosting.
- No slicing: cupcakes, cake pops, cakesicles and cheesecake shooters are already portioned.
- Travel-friendly: dipped pretzels, Rice Krispy treats and popcorn bags ride in a box without fuss.
- Something fresh: dipped strawberries or a fruit tray balance a heavy meal.
- Easy to label: one flavor per tray makes allergy questions simple.
Cupcakes That Feed a Crowd
Cupcakes are the easiest Friendsgiving dessert because each guest gets their own. Order a mix of one familiar flavor and one richer specialty flavor so everyone finds something they like.
Standard sized cupcakes start at $10 per half dozen in white, chocolate, lemon, red velvet, strawberry and yellow. Standard sized specialty cupcakes start at $15 per half dozen, with flavors such as banana pudding stuffed, chocolate turtle, red velvet cheesecake swirled and strawberry cheesecake stuffed.
For a fall look, ask for themed cupcakes (from $16 per half dozen) in warm oranges, deep reds, browns and gold. Our cupcake flavors guide describes each flavor if you are deciding.
Fall Flavors Without Baking a Pie
If someone else is bringing the pie, you can still bring a dessert that tastes like the season. Caramel, pecans, banana pudding and cheesecake all feel at home on a November table.
- Jumbo Turtle cupcakes ($6 each) are filled with homemade caramel and topped with buttercream, chocolate chips and pecans.
- Jumbo Banana Pudding cupcakes ($6 each) are filled with homemade banana pudding and topped with whipped cream and vanilla wafers, a Southern favorite.
- Cheesecake shooters come in 2 oz cups, from $25 for 25 shooters, in flavors like red velvet, chocolate and strawberry. See our cheesecake shooters party guide.
- Gourmet apples are made with Granny Smith apples and start at $8 each. Sliced, one apple can be shared by a few guests.

Small Bites for Grazing
Friendsgiving guests tend to snack for hours after the meal, so small bites are worth adding. They fill the gaps between bigger items and are easy to send home with people.
Gourmet cake pops in banana pudding or cookies n creme are $3.50 each, with a minimum of six. Dipped pretzels start at $2 each and add a salty-sweet crunch. Candied or cookies n creme popcorn starts at $1.50 per bag (minimum of six bags), and dipped apple wedges are $5 for four wedges in flavors like milk chocolate turtle or strawberry crunch.
Wrapped treats double as take-home favors. Our guide to dipped treats as party favors has more ideas.
How Much Dessert Should You Bring?
Plan on about two treats per guest. After a big meal most people eat one dessert at the table and pick up a second one later in the evening.
| Guests | Simple order | Fuller spread |
|---|---|---|
| 6–10 | 1 dozen cupcakes + 6 cake pops | 6 jumbo cupcakes + 1 dozen standard cupcakes + 6 pretzels |
| 12–18 | 2 dozen cupcakes + 12 pretzels | A 36-count party package |
| 20–30 | 3 dozen cupcakes + 25 cheesecake shooters | A 48-count package + 2 dozen cupcakes |
For larger groups, a party package keeps things simple. The Variety Party Package (36 treats, $100) includes 6 each of cake pops, cupcakes, pretzels, small apples, Rice Krispy treats and popcorn bags, color coordinated to your occasion. The Deluxe Package (48 treats, $125) has 12 each of cake pops, dipped strawberries, dipped pretzels and Rice Krispy treats. Every option is on our party packages page. Prices are listed starting prices and are confirmed when your order is accepted. For more counting help, see how many cupcakes you need for a party.
Getting Desserts to a Friend's House
Keep treats flat, cool and covered on the drive. Put boxes on the floor of the car rather than the seat, and run the air conditioning if the day is warm.
Pick up as close to the party as you can. If your Friendsgiving is on a Saturday evening, a Saturday pickup between 11 am and 2 pm keeps everything fresh. If it is on Sunday, pick up Saturday and refrigerate anything with fruit, cream cheese or cheesecake overnight. Our guides on transporting cupcakes and storing cupcakes walk through the details.
Food safety: cheesecake shooters, dipped strawberries, banana pudding and cream cheese fillings are perishable. The USDA advises not leaving perishable food in the "danger zone" between 40°F and 140°F for more than two hours. Keep these treats in the fridge until dessert time and put leftovers back promptly.
Allergy and Diet Notes for a Mixed Group
A Friendsgiving table often brings together people with different diets, so ask your guests before you order. Label each tray so nobody has to guess.
Some menu items contain peanuts, such as Reese's cupcakes, and some contain tree nuts, such as the pecans on turtle cupcakes. Tell us about any allergies when you order, and ask about milk, eggs and wheat as well. Learn more about food allergies.
For friends watching their sugar, sugar-free cupcakes start at $16 per half dozen in yellow or chocolate with sugar-free cream cheese icing. Our sugar-free treats guide explains the options.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good dessert to bring to Friendsgiving?
Bring something already portioned that travels well, such as a dozen cupcakes, a box of cake pops or a tray of cheesecake shooters. Single-serve treats need no slicing or serving tools, so the host can set them out right away and guests can help themselves after the meal.
Can you decorate treats in fall colors?
Yes. Themed cupcakes, cake pops, pretzels and party packages can be decorated in warm fall colors like orange, deep red, brown and gold. Share your color ideas or a photo when you order, and the design and final price are confirmed when your order is accepted.
Can Friendsgiving treats be delivered?
Cupcakes, cake pops, shooters and party packages are pickup only in Hope on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Fruit displays are the one item that can be delivered, with a fee outside of Hope. Plan your pickup close to the party and keep perishable treats cold until dessert time.
