Lemon-berry and specialty cupcakes topped with fresh strawberries

Choosing a cupcake flavor can be harder than choosing the party theme. This guide lists every cake flavor, icing and specialty cupcake on the Strixly Cupcakes menu, explains what each one tastes like and suggests easy pairings, so you can order with confidence for a birthday, shower, office party or just because.

Classic Cake Flavors

Our standard cupcakes come in six classic cake flavors: white, yellow, chocolate, lemon, red velvet and strawberry. Some boxes and bouquets also offer a butter cake option. All are sold by the half dozen as standard cupcakes.

  • White: light and sweet, with a clean vanilla flavor. The most flexible choice for colored icing and themes.
  • Yellow: richer than white, with a buttery, classic birthday-cake taste.
  • Chocolate: the safe favorite for kids' parties.
  • Lemon: bright and fresh; popular for spring showers and summer events.
  • Red velvet: a mild cocoa cake with its signature red color, traditionally paired with cream cheese icing.
  • Strawberry: sweet and fruity, and pretty in pink for showers and Valentine's Day.

Icing Choices

Icing changes the whole character of a cupcake. Our menu lists white buttercream, buttercream, chocolate buttercream, cream cheese and SweetTart buttercream, and whipped icing is something customers can ask about.

One of our Google reviewers mentions that Rachael uses whipped icing on her orders so her husband can enjoy his cupcakes, so if you prefer a lighter icing, just ask when you order.

Specialty Flavors in Jumbo Size

Jumbo specialty cupcakes are filled and topped desserts in their own right, and each one is a generous single serving. These are the treats many customers come back for.

  • Jumbo Banana Pudding: a moist white cupcake filled with homemade banana pudding, topped with freshly made whipped cream, vanilla wafer crumbles and a wafer.
  • Jumbo Turtle: a white or chocolate cupcake filled with homemade caramel and topped with buttercream, chocolate chips, pecans, caramel and chocolate ganache.
  • Jumbo Strawberry Cheesecake Stuffed: a strawberry cupcake stuffed with cheesecake, topped with buttercream, strawberry topping, graham cracker crumbles and a graham cracker.
  • Jumbo Cookies 'n Creme: topped with Oreo icing, cookie crumble and a whole Oreo.
  • Jumbo Reese's: chocolate and peanut butter batter baked with Reese's cups and topped with a peanut butter and chocolate swirl.

Specialty Flavors in Standard Size

If you love the specialty flavors but need to feed a group, order them in a standard size by the half dozen. The standard size specialty cupcakes include these flavors:

  • Strawberry Cheesecake Stuffed
  • Lemon-Berry
  • Cookies 'n Crème
  • Chocolate Turtle and White Turtle
  • Banana Pudding Stuffed
  • Red Velvet Cheesecake Swirled
  • Reese's
  • Snickers

The Lemon-Berry cupcake, with pink and yellow frosting, a fresh strawberry and a lemon slice, is the cupcake you see at the top of our homepage.

Sugar-Free Cupcakes

For guests who avoid sugar, sugar-free cupcakes come in yellow or chocolate with sugar-free cream cheese icing, sold by the half dozen.

Sugar-free is not the same as carb-free or allergen-free, so if you are ordering for someone who manages diabetes or follows a medical diet, check with them first. Our sugar-free cupcakes guide explains more.

How to Choose Flavors for a Party

Pick two or three flavors that cover different tastes: one chocolate, one light or fruity, and one specialty. That mix usually pleases kids, adults and the guest who "doesn't like sweets."

  • Kids' birthday: chocolate with chocolate buttercream, white with colored buttercream, and a few jumbo cookies 'n creme for the birthday child.
  • Baby or bridal shower: lemon with white buttercream, strawberry with cream cheese and red velvet with cream cheese.
  • Office party: a half dozen each of chocolate, white and a specialty flavor like banana pudding.
  • Grown-up dinner party: jumbo turtle and strawberry cheesecake stuffed cupcakes as plated desserts.

Ordering several half dozens in different flavors also makes your dessert table look fuller and more colorful. For quantities, see how many cupcakes you need for a party.

Allergen Notes

Some flavors contain common allergens. Reese's and peanut butter toppings contain peanuts, turtle cupcakes are topped with pecans, and cookies 'n creme cupcakes include Oreo cookies. Cupcakes in general contain wheat, eggs and milk.

If anyone in your group has an allergy, tell us before you order, and label flavors on the table so guests can choose safely.

Jumbo or Standard: Which Size Should You Choose?

Choose jumbo specialty cupcakes when each guest should get a filled, topped dessert, and standard cupcakes when you are feeding a crowd or offering several treats. The flavors overlap, so the decision is mostly about portion and presentation.

  • Jumbo: generous single servings, ideal for gifts, small dinners, a birthday guest of honor or a dessert plate.
  • Standard: sold by the half dozen, easier to plan for parties, and better for kids and dessert tables with several treats.
  • Both: order standard cupcakes for the crowd and a few jumbos for the family table or the guest of honor.

Flavors for Themed Cupcakes

For themed cupcakes, white or yellow cake with white buttercream is the most flexible base, because the icing takes color well. Chocolate cake works for darker themes, and lemon or strawberry adds a fruity twist under pastel designs. Tell us your theme and we will suggest flavors that look and taste right together.

Cupcake Flavor Questions

What is the most popular cupcake flavor at Strixly Cupcakes?

Our jumbo specialty cupcakes, such as banana pudding, turtle and strawberry cheesecake stuffed, are customer favorites because each one is a filled, topped dessert. For big groups, classic chocolate and white with buttercream remain the easiest crowd-pleasers.

Can I mix flavors in one order?

Yes. Standard cupcakes are sold by the half dozen, so you can order several half dozens in different flavors. Mixing two or three flavors gives guests a choice and makes your table more colorful. Let us know the flavors and icing for each half dozen when you order.

Which icing is less sweet?

Cream cheese icing has a gentle tang that tastes a little less sweet than buttercream, and whipped icing is lighter and airier. If your guests find buttercream too rich, ask about either option when you send your order request.
