Baby Shower Dessert Ideas: Treats for Boys, Girls and Gender Reveals

Pink drizzled cakesicles and sparkly cake pops on a dessert table, a sweet fit for a baby shower

A baby shower dessert table should look sweet, match the party colors and be easy for guests to pick up while they chat, open gifts and play games. The best baby shower desserts are single-serve treats such as themed cupcakes, cake pops, cakesicles and dipped strawberries, decorated in the colors of the nursery or the invitation. In this guide we walk through the treats on our menu that work well for showers, ideas for boy, girl and neutral themes, a simple reveal idea, how much to order, and a few safety notes for the mom-to-be.

What Desserts Are Best for a Baby Shower?

The best baby shower desserts are small, pretty and easy to eat without a fork. Cupcakes, cake pops, cakesicles, dipped strawberries and dipped pretzels can sit on a table for guests to help themselves.

At a baby shower, guests move between games and the gift table. Treats that need slicing keep the hostess in the kitchen; single-serve desserts let her stay with her guests.

  • Easy to hold: cake pops, cakesicles, dipped pretzels and dipped Oreos.
  • Pretty on a stand: themed cupcakes and dipped strawberries.
  • Good as favors: wrapped cake pops, pretzels and popcorn bags that guests can take home.

Themed Cupcakes for the Shower Table

Themed cupcakes are the centerpiece of most shower dessert tables. They can carry the party colors, a simple baby design or the theme from the invitation.

Our themed cupcakes start at $16 per half dozen, and the decoration is planned with you during a free consultation. If you want a quieter look, standard sized cupcakes start at $10 per half dozen in white, chocolate, lemon, red velvet, strawberry and yellow, and the icing can be tinted to your colors.

A few flavor ideas that suit showers:

  • Lemon with white buttercream feels light, nice for spring showers.
  • Strawberry has a soft pink color for a girl theme.
  • White or yellow cake suits every age.
  • Red velvet with cream cheese icing gives the table one richer option.

Our cupcake flavors guide explains each flavor in more detail.

Cake Pops and Cakesicles in Baby Colors

Cake pops and cakesicles are the easiest shower treats to match to a color scheme. Their candy coating takes soft pinks, baby blues, sage, lavender or white and gold very well.

Cake pops are listed at $3 each in colors and $4 each with a theme, with a minimum of six. Cakesicles, which are cake and frosting inside a chocolate shell shaped like an ice pop, start at $3.50 each, or $4 with a theme, also with a minimum of six.

Both work as favors when wrapped and tied with a ribbon. If you are deciding between the two, our cake pops vs cakesicles guide compares size, look and price.

Dipped Strawberries, Pretzels and Other Small Treats

Dipped strawberries add a fresh, elegant touch to a shower, and dipped pretzels add something salty-sweet. Together they fill the gaps between the bigger items on the table.

White chocolate dipped strawberries start at $15 per half dozen and suit light color schemes. Themed strawberries, decorated with drizzles, sprinkles or colored coating, start at $18 per half dozen. Themed dipped pretzels start at $2 each, and dipped Oreos start at $3 each.

Ideas for Boy, Girl and Neutral Showers

Start with the colors on the invitation and repeat them across every treat. Two or three colors look calm and planned; more than that can look busy.

A photo of the invitation is the most helpful thing to send with your order, so the treats look like they belong to the same party.

Letter Boxes and a Simple Reveal Idea

A letter or number box makes a sweet focal point for a shower, and a burn cake is a fun way to share news with a group. Both are planned ahead, so mention them early.

A monogram box arranges 9 to 10 color-coordinated cupcakes and 2 dipped pretzels in the shape of a letter, listed starting at $40 per letter. The baby's first initial looks lovely on the gift table. Our monogram and number box guide explains how they are put together.

If the parents want to share the baby's sex at the party, an 8-inch burn cake ($80, double layered) has a printed edible paper topper that is lit and burns away to show a hidden picture or message underneath. It is a simple way to host a gender reveal moment. Only light the topper in a safe space away from anything flammable, keep children at a distance, and have a damp cloth nearby.

How Much Should You Order for a Baby Shower?

Plan on about two to three treats per guest. Shower guests usually eat a dessert and take a favor, and a mix of items lets everyone try more than one thing.

15–202 dozen cupcakes + 12 cake popsA 36-count party package + 1 dozen strawberries
25–353 dozen cupcakes + 24 cakesiclesA 48-count package + 2 dozen cupcakes

A Themed Variety Package (36 treats, $150) includes 6 each of cake pops, cupcakes, pretzels, small apples, Rice Krispy treats and popcorn bags, all decorated to your theme. A themed 48-count package is listed at $175. Every option is on our party packages page. For a lighter option next to the sweets, a fruit tray starts at $50. Prices are listed starting prices and are confirmed when your order is accepted. For more on counting portions, read how many cupcakes you need for a party.

Safety Notes for the Mom-to-Be and Guests

Keep cold treats cold, and do not leave perishable desserts out for more than two hours. This matters even more when the guest of honor is pregnant.

The FDA's food safety advice for moms-to-be says to discard perishables left at room temperature for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F, and to keep cold foods at 40°F or colder until serving. Dipped strawberries, cheesecake fillings and cream cheese icing belong in the refrigerator until the party starts. If the mom-to-be has diet guidance from her doctor, ask us about ingredients when you order.

Allergy note: some menu items contain peanuts, such as Reese's cupcakes, and some contain tree nuts, such as pecans on turtle cupcakes. Tell us about allergies when you order and label the table. Learn more about food allergies.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you match the treats to my baby shower invitation?

Yes. Send a photo of the invitation with your order and we will plan the coating, drizzle and sprinkle colors to match it. Themed decoration is discussed during a free consultation, costs more than simple color matching, and the final price is confirmed when your order is accepted.

What is a good dessert for a small baby shower?

For about 15 to 20 guests, two dozen themed cupcakes and a dozen cake pops or cakesicles make a full-looking table. Add a half dozen white chocolate dipped strawberries for the mom-to-be's table if you want something a little more special without ordering a large package.

Can baby shower treats be delivered?

Cupcakes, cake pops, strawberries and party packages are pickup only in Hope on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Fruit displays are the one item that can be delivered, with a fee outside of Hope. Plan your pickup close to the shower and keep perishable treats cold until serving.
